Many of us make certain mistakes when choosing a business/brand name.
One of the most common mistakes is following the crowd.
By following the crowd, I mean choosing a name similar to what your competition or what other business owners have chosen.
Eg Bola Collections, Abike Empire, Tife Couture, Tolu Skincare etc.
If you notice these examples you’ll see that they all have one thing in common, which is using their first name.
Did you know that according to experts like Watkins, it will be easier to sell your business in future if your name isn’t tied to it?

As tempting as using your name to prefix collections, or Couture, or Hub, or Empire sounds, you need to understand that these phrases have been overused which means you need to stand out.
When choosing a business name, dare to be different.
Choose something simple, easy to pronounce, and easy to remember.
Did you know that you can use another language for your brand name?
A simple yet meaningful word from another language can make a very lovely brand name.
Avoid cliche words or tags.
Once you’ve decided on your business name please try and say it aloud.
Take note of how it sounds to you.
Write it down and think about it, conduct research to see if it hasn’t been used by anyone.
If it has, tweak it a little bit. Also, don’t limit yourself if you plan on expanding.
Don’t be afraid to rebrand.
If you have made a mistake in choosing a brand name, don’t be afraid to start afresh.
Do research upon research, and make sure you are happy with the name you have chosen because it will stick with you for a long time. So ensure you’re happy.
Lastly, avoid copying people’s brand names without knowing the story behind the name.
When I chose to use Beadlux, I had the options of Beadify, and Craftlux.
My friend KY and I tweaked it and it became Beadlux. Now it means Beadluxury 🌚 😂
I made sure to check everywhere possible to see that no one else was using that name. Fortunately, it was just one INACTIVE business in one Asian country that was using the name Beadlux 😅 kilokanmi.
If I want to expand from making gemstone beads I obviously will have to rebrand cause Beadlux is well, beads.

So this is what I’m trying to say.
Don’t limit your brand name especially if you have plans to expand your business.
If you sell leather belts and you name your brand “Belts” no go dey sell Aso oke again under that name o🤣.
If you have used Abike collections etc for your business
I’m not condemning you please 😌🤲.
You must have had your reasons for choosing that name.
But there’s always room for rebranding.
Yunno 🌚
In case you’re sharing your name with someone 😌
